ALS FUNDRAISING

image
Bad week for training. I’m sick with a throat infection and with no training or riding last weekend. Annoying! I will be back the saddle on Thursday for a light training in preparation for Saturday 135 kms race.

In the meantime I decided to start with my good cause of the year. Every year I choose a good cause to do fundraising. This year I will stick with fundraising for the ALS foundation in Holland. And I count with your help.

Take a look in the  full details after the link!

Team JOS Nike Courage 2013 with JOS on top of Ventoux.

In December last year Jos Rodermond-Durieux, a Nike colleague and cyclist, has been diagnosed with ALS, a muscle degenerating disease and given a life span of 2 to 3 years. Inspired by his fight to live with this condition a group of the Nike cycling team decided to enlist on the TOUR DU ALS and to dedicate this year L’ETAPE DU TOUR to this cause and fundraise for the ALS Foundation in Holland.

The ALS Foundation is in search of support to fund the research for a cure. ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease is a muscle debilitating conditions that are fatal. Some of them are slow, like the one that the astronomer Stephen Hawking has. Others are very aggressive. But in all cases, very little research is being done and more due to the limited number of patients. A case of economics.

Like the group in the above photo, my first big challenge this year will happen on May 30th when the Tour du ALS will cycle up the famous Mont Ventoux 3 times in the same day: a total of 68 kms of climbing. The second objective will be to complete the L’Etape du Tour within the time limit. This year the ride will happen on July 20th and will cover 148 kilometers across two mountains: the famous Cold du Tourmalet and Hautacan. As always a hard challenge.

Our objective is to use those events to raise awareness of the disease and support the ALS foundation in The Netherlands with a big donation for the research for a cure. We started this week the FUNDRAISING and I count on your support. Any amount is welcome!!! We will fundraise until August.

See on the right side how you can donate a little money and motivate us even more.

Thank you!
