FIRST EVENT–SUN AND RAIN

Today was the day of the first bike event of the year: Veenendaal – Veenendaal.  140 kms race with around 3 thousand cyclists right in the center of Holland. It was a mixed emotion day: nice first 100 kms with sun and good speed and team morale. Followed by the next 40 kms of  heavy ice cold rain and miserable conditions. Se more details after the jump.

Hoje eu participei do primeiro evento do ano: Veenendaal – Veenendal. Uma corrida de 14o quilômetros com 3 mil participantes no centro da Holanda. Foi uma dia de sentimentos mixtos: os primeiros 100 kms foi com sol, boa velocidade. A segunda parte, com os últimos 40 kms, foi embaixo de uma chuva muito forte e gelada. SUNNY & QUICK

What a great ride today. Sunny, cold but almost no wind. It was great to push non-stop for the full 120 kms on just beginning of zone 3 and keep speed above 30 kms/h. And even better, that it wasn’t a round trip which sometimes gets predictable. New route, great weather and better condition. Can’t ask for me.

Um dia excelente na bike. Sol, frio mas quase sem vento. Foi um treino forte sem parada por 120 kms mantendo o ritmo cardíaco na zona 3 e manter a velocidade acima dos 30 km/h. E melhor ainda, não foi uma volta, mas uma linha direta. Nova rota para o sul da Holanda, grade clima e condição melhor. Nada mal.

RAIN & WIND

After two weeks not getting on the bike due to a flu with high fever, I went out today to a  very wet and windy ride. Saturday was already a rainy day but the forecast for Sunday was for strong wind but dry between 9 am and 14 am. As the satellite picture above shows (the little dot is where I live), it didn’t happen like that.

TEAM RIDE

Today was the second team ride from the Nike group. It was a nice strong ride in a cloudy and cold weather but that stayed dry. The team was quite big with around 35 people and the ride was fast and fun with a couple of climbs, some of them that I didn’t even know yet. Quite a surprise…

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

First day of the year with a great weather: sunny and warm(ish). The day started the day in 6 degrees but it went all the way up to 15 degrees celsius. A great day to stick to fat burning zone 2 training and to enjoy the scenery of a very well selected route.

Primeiro dia do ano com clima quase perfeito: sol e quase quente. O dia começou com 6 graus celsius mas rapidamente chegou aos 15 graus. Foi um treino muito bom para manter na zona 2 e queimar calorias e aproveitar o cenario.

This weekend the training was today in the afternoon instead of the traditional Sunday early morning. That was good because I avoided the close to zero temperatures and the weather was brilliant: sun shinning and strong wind. Perfect for training.

Esta semana eu treinei hoje à tarde em vez do tradicional Domingo de manhã cedo. Foi bom porque evitei temperaturas perto do zero e clima estava perfeito: sol brilhando e o vento estava forte. Um dia pefeito para treinar.

Another very cold day on the bike today. I left home at 8:30 and the ground was totally frozen. Have to be very careful which slow down the average speed quite a lot. Despite that it was a nice ride with no wind and beautiful sun.

Hoje foi outro dia de muito frio na bicicleta. Eu saí de casa às 8:30 e o chão estava congelado. Tive que tomar muito cuidado o que fez a velocidade média baixar muito. Apesar disso foi uma volta legal sem vento e com o sol brilhando.

ICE COLD WIND

Sunny dry training day today. Still lots of ice on the side of the road but the actual roads and cycle paths were quite clean and I could take the race bike instead of the mountain bike as planned originally.  Good ride on heart rate zone two and against quite strong head wind most of the time.

Domingo de inverno com sol. Ainda há bastante gelo ao lado da rua, mas as ciclovias estão limpas e eu pude sair com a bike de estrada em vez da mtb como tinha planejado inicialmente. Um bom treino na zona cardíaca 2, entre 148 e 155 bpm , contra um forte vento gelado.

OFF-TOPIC: LISTENING MUSIC

After I’ve completed the training today I’ve done something I haven’t in a long time: stayed alone and listened to a couple of albums. Not put music on while I was doing something. No, that is something else. What I mean is turn on the music and just listen while I seep a nice cup of coffee. I had almost forgotten how good I feel and how much I really like to listen to music alone. Curious what I was listening, check after the link.

Depois do treino de hoje eu fiz uma coisa que fazia muito tempo que não tinha uma chance: escutar alguns discos sozinho. Não quero dizer colocar música prá rolar enquanto faço outra coisa. Não. Quero dizer colocar música e escutar o disco inteiro enquanto bebo um café do bom. Eu tinha quase esquecido como eu gosto de fazer isso e como me sinto bem. Peter and I did 145 kms on a 2 degrees rainy day and we froze ourselves to the limit. So much I had to helped by wife and daughter to undress when finally manage to drag myself home. Tanto que tive que ter ajuda da mulher e filha para tirar a roupa quando finalmente arrastei a carcaça congelada para casa. As mãos não estavam funcionando mais e aparentemente nem o cérebro. With the moto “keep on with my fight” the campaign is bringing attention to both the fight against the disease and asking participants to the Tour du ALS. BACK PAIN IS BACK

For the last 3 weeks I’ve been suffering with back pain again. It wasn’t as strong as last year, but strong enough to stop me cycling. Last weekend I went out but it was so slow and painful it didn’t even award writing about it. Today was better: less pain a bit more speed. I went thru the Amsterdamrijkanaal and it was quite windy, which was good to train alone. Let’s see how the back will react in the next days.

A dor nas costas voltaram na últimas três semanas. Não tão forte como no ano passado mas o suficiente para me fazer parar de sair com a bicicleta. Na semana passada eu saí, mas vou tão devagar e doloroso que nem mereceu escrever aqui. Hoje foi um pouco melhor: menos dor e mais velocidade. Fui para o Amsterdamrijkanaal e estava com bastante vento, o que é bom. Vamos ver como a coisa vai.
