Teste Físico || Fitness Testing

30 segundos vídeo do teste.
30 seconds video of the test. I'm using it to decide my position on the bike. I think I need to move the sit a little bit forward and lower as my knee isn't aligned with the shoes clits when the pedal is horizontal to the ground.

Ontem eu fiz o segundo fitness teste deste ano. Bom sinal...

Yesterday I've done the second fitness test from the year. The first one was in January and I've manage to do 270 watts with a lactate threshold of 178 bpm and max hr of 195 bpm. This time I've taken it easy and didn't push myself mentally like last year. My personal target was 300 watts. And that is exactly what I've done. I went steadily until I hit the 300 watts mark and then stopped. My heart rate at the moment was 184 and I felt that I could keep going for another level up. The phisiologist that supports the Nike team said that the result is good because it wasn't a desperate effort to achieve the 300 watts, but a steady and estable push. Good sign...

Bom treino com time || Nice team ride and big miss

Last Sunday I’ve done a nice ride with other 5 colleagues. We’ve done 140kms in exact 5 hours. It was a good training in the flat, no climbs, but with good speed the whole time. Average speed was 28km/h because we’ve got lost a couple of times, what makes you slow down to find the way again. We’ve done some sprints up to 45km/h and a good stretch of 15kms around 35km/h. Good quality traininig. My legs were painful in good part of the training but I didn’t get cramps.
The bad thing is that I was supose to participate in a ride on Monday. It was a ride I was waiting since last year and I forgot completely. It’s called Elfstedentocht and it is a 240 kms run in the north of Holland. As it was national holiday, people would be on the street and every control city (11 in total = hence the name – elf = 11 and steden = cities) there would be bands playing, cafés and people in the street. I’m totally pissed…

This week

This week was dedicated again to interval training. Monday and Wednesday I've done 1 hour spinning training with 4 x 8 minutes interval around lactate threshold with 2 minutes rest in between. In both days the 2 first intervals were very hard, but the second and third were fine and the back pain is much better. Also, I've been doing a lot of exercise and stretching for the lower back.
This Sunday, team ride for around 150kms. It will be probably very fast. And all in all, preparation for the next very big challenge: Limburgse Mooiste. 150 kms im the Limburg area of Holland. The hard part of this ride is not the distance. Is that it has 24 climbs all around 15% and some going to t 20%. I hope this time without cramps.

Also this week I've ordered the magic pills againts cramps that a colleague gave to me during the ride. They are called sportlegs (www.sportlegs.com) and the are a couple of professionals using it. The idea is that you take 2 pills before the ride and 1 every 2 hours to avoid cramps and burning legs sensation.

Steven Rooks results

Little thing about the Steven Rooks result. I was very disappointed with the ride feeling and the overall time: 8 hours and 9 minutes. But actually after I saw the rest of the group I wasn't that far out from the second group. Most of them finished around 7 hours and 40-45 minutes. If I wasn't stopped in the bottom of La Redoute for 1 hour and rode the rest of the race alone, the result would be very different. At the end, a good result.

Steven Rooks Classic

Resultado:
Tempo total da corrida: 8 horas 9 minutos
Tempo subida La Redoute: 8 minutos 44 segundos
Tempo subida Bois d’Olne: 9 minutos 51 seconds
Tempo parado: 1 hora 35 minutos

As I’ve suspected the Steven Rooks Classic ride was very hard but I wasn’t not even close to what really happened. Four weeks without real training collected a high toll in pain and exhaustion. I wasn’t ready for the 160kms in the Belgium Ardennes and I was very slow in the majority of the ride and with pain the my upper body. But the worse happened in the beginning of Cote de La Redoute climb, around 70kms in the race. Until then I was riding with 2 colleagues from Nike, Ron and Simon, with a average speed of 30km/h. As soon I started climbing, a very strong cramp started hitting both my upper legs. The pain was so strong that I almost felt on the ground. I have never felt so strong cramps. I had to stop and was almost not able to just stand still.

I’ve drank almost the full bidon (1l) in one go as one of the main reasons for cramps is dehydration. But it didn’t help. And while I wait to see what happen I saw almost the whole Nike group passing by (what shows that I was going well so far). Another colleague, Richard, stopped to check what was going on. I’ve told him and he gave me a couple of pills to prevent cramps. But they would take around 1 hour to take effect. I’ve waited a bit and went down to the base of the climb to keep my legs moving with the lightest gears. The objective was to increase the circulation in the legs to help the pills to take effect. Almost 30 minutes later I could still feel the cramps.

I gave it up and decided to find the flattest way back to my car. I’ve asked the way to several people but no one could help me. So, I thought that I would go to the top of La Redoute and look for someone of the organization for help. I’ve started the climb and in the first easy part of the climb (5%) the cramps didn’t come. I’ve done the first half of the climb and a light cramp started in my left leg. I’ve stopped and rested for 3 minutes. Re-started and was ableto finish without cramps. And on the top there was nobody from the organization.

So,the only way out was to keep going tru the route. After that the cramps haven’t come back but was always a threat in each climb. I’ve done all the climbs in the similar way: stopping and resting at every sign of cramps. I’ve managed to finish the race with lots of pain and with very bad results. But I’m happy I was able to finish and now I need to get the name of that magic pill. At the end this was a very unpleasant ride with rain, 5 degrees Celsius temperature and too much pain…

Results:
Total time: 8 hours 9 minutes
La Redoute: 8 minutes 44 seconds
Bois d’Olne: 9 minutes 51 seconds
Rest time: 1 hora 35 minutos

Today I've done a 80kms in 3 hours ride. As I wrote yesterday I would like to do 150kms. But because I'm not feeling 100% and the weather was promising heavy rain, I've decided to cut it in half. I've done 4 climbs of 5% and it went well. But I'm totally tired and I could see that heart rate was going higher easily. The result of the flu will stay still for a couple fo weeks. I'm even more nervous about Thursday ride.
I've also seen today the Giro D'Italia passing by my city. 500 meters from my home. And of course someone has made a video and put on the youtube...

De volta a bicicleta || Back to the bike

Last September I've done the Gerrie Kneteman ride, that runs from and to the Amsterdam olympic stadium (above).
Where the Giro will be leaving tomorrow as well.

Well, after 4 weeks (if you don't count Limburg ride) due to the flu, tomorrow I'm back to the bike. The antibiotics that I'm taking since Monday is working and I'm feeling much better. Yesterday I've done 40 minutes spinning and it was OK. I felt heavy and without power but it was expected. Anyway the idea was to unrust the joints to go back to the bike tomorrow morning. I'm going to make 140 kms and see what happens. I need to get ready to Steven Rooks on Thursday. And also tomorrow the 2nd stage of the Giro D'Italia , 150 kms from Amsterdam to Utrecht, will pass at 500 meters from my home. Maybe I will see the pros passing from a Coffieshop.

Me passaram pro antibiótico e repouso.
  • Berghuizen - max 13% - 700 m
  • Wolfsberg - max 11% - 700 m
  • Schilberg - max 13% - 900 m
  • Holiguette - max 11% - 700 m
  • Côte de la Redoute - max 20% - 1.600 m - Tijdregistratie
  • Côte de Cornemont - max 9% - 3.000 m
  • La Trasenter - max 15% - 2.900 m
  • Bois d'Olne - max 22% - 1.100 m - Tijdregistratie
  • Les Waides - max 14% - 2.500 m

I went to the doctor today and the result: probably sinusitis ("probably" because they didn't take an x-ray) together with alergic attack. I think those rides on -6 C deegrees didn't help. They gave me antibiotics and rest. Rest and no training for at least a week. And it sucks. This week it has been confirmed the pacour of the Steven Rooks Classic and I'm not training... The best to do now is hope that next sunday I can do a 140kms ride...
Take a look in the climbs of this 160kms ride:
